EN 13034 (Type 6)

EN 13034 is a standard for protective clothing that provides limited protection against chemicals in the form of light splashes and sprays. It is used in situations where the risk of exposure to chemicals is limited and short-term.

EN 13034 contains two test methods:

    • Type PB [6] indicates partial body protection. I.e. jackets and trousers that are tested as individual parts.

    • Type 6 indicates full body protection. This is where products are tested and certified together as a complete set to provide full protection against chemicals.

At MASCOT we certify our products according to EN 13034 Type 6, which ensures full body protection.

    How are the products tested?

The material's protection against chemicals is tested with a minimum of two out of four chemical solutions. To achieve the EN 13034 certification, at least one chemical must pass the test.

    • Sulphuric acid (H2SO4)
    • Sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
    • O-xylene
    • Butanol

It tests how much of the solution on the surface of the fabric is rejected and how much of it penetrates the material. In addition to the fabric, the finished product and its seams are also tested to ensure that no liquid penetrates when moving.

A selection of the products in our assortment have a PFAS-free surface treatment, which means that the products repel and resist the penetration of sulphuric acid and sodium hydroxide.

    Co-certification for full protection

MASCOT® MULTISAFE products that are EN 13034 Type 6 certified are tested and certified together with other products to achieve full protection. Please refer to the product care label to see which combination of products you need to put/wear together to achieve EN 13034 Type 6.

For the launch of MASCOT® ACCELERATE MULTISAFE, we have developed a simple letter system. The simple letter system makes it easy for you to combine your garments across the products in the range and ensure that your chosen garment is tested and certified as a whole (Type 6). The letter system can be used for products in MASCOT® ACCELERATE MULTISAFE.

With a Category J upper garment combined with a Category K lower garment, EN 13034, Type 6 certification is achieved for the overall garment. For MASCOT® ACCELERATE MULTISAFE, you can find the letter category in the product's care label or under each individual product on this website.
